Teaching
Courses, workshops, and tutorials
I have taught courses ranging from introductory biology, evolutionary biology, phylogenetics, and computational methods. I am especially interested in making phylogenetic and macroevolutionary tools more accessible through practical workshops with reproducible code.
Below I list some of the courses with avilable repositories for anybody to access.
Courses
Upcoming: In Fall 2026, the UniSSE academics will be teaching “Modelos probabilisticos en biología evolutiva: diversificación, morfología, biogeografia y tendencias” for graduate students in the Posgrado en Ciencias Biológicas. A link to the course will be available here.
Workshops and Tutorials
Divergence time estimation using a Bayesian total-evidence dating approach
Developed in collaboration with Rocio Deanna and Stacey Smith, this workshop introduces the foundations of divergence-time estimation using Bayesian total-evidence dating. The materials include background concepts and reproducible code for applying the model to empirical datasets.
This workshop was offered at Evolution 2022 and SSB 2023.

Filobayes: un taller de filogenetica bayesiana en RevBayes
Developed with Rosana Zenil-Ferguson and Santiago Ramirez-Barahona, this Spanish-language workshop introduces Bayesian phylogenetics using RevBayes. The materials are designed for a three-day practical course and include examples, exercises, and teaching resources.
This workshop was offered in January 2025 at the Instituto de Biologia, UNAM.

Spatial Phylogenetics in R (English version)
This tutorial introduces spatial phylogenetic analyses with the R package phylospatial, with materials available in English and Spanish. It covers the basic workflow for connecting phylogenetic information with geographic patterns of biodiversity.
